KASTO introduces new system for sheet metal storage |
A new, automated tower system has been introduced by KASTO, Southampton, for storing sheet metal as well as other items such as long stock, cut pieces, boxes, drums and pallets. Able to be customised from modules and said to be easy to operate, the UNITOWER C is ideal for first-time users and is an economical solution to storage in job shops, distribution centres and throughout industry. The standard, semi-automatic tower has a footprint of 3,450 x 4,150 mm while the automatic version is slightly larger at 4,555 x 4,000 mm. Both offer high storage density and are quick and inexpensive to configure; installation by the customer is even possible. The new KASTO-BasicControl with touch panel and operator guidance provides easy management of the system and has a 'dead man' control when used in semi-automatic mode. UNITOWER C shelves accommodate standard size metal sheet. Clearance from the shelf above can be optimised in 47 mm increments between 51 mm and 897 mm to suit the items being stored. Maximum load per level is 1,200 kg. The design of the steel structure is flexibly configured with standard, perforated structural profile up to a system height of seven metres. Shelves are moved on plastic inserts in the guideways and are pulled out or pushed back by a powered carriage that runs the height of the tower on racks, allowing the load to be presented to the operator at ground level. The 2.6 kW carriage motor reaches a maximum lift speed of 8 m/min, resulting in high productivity. Working height is adjustable so that material may be supplied directly to a sheet metal processing machine such as a punch press or laser profiler. Socket pins on an optional deposit table can support stacks of whole sheets, rest pieces and components when the load has been lowered, allowing direct access to the material by a fork lift truck. Material may therefore be stored on each level without space being taken up unnecessarily by a wooden pallet or other base. An interactive chart is available from KASTO, allowing a prospective user to work out the cost of a system by entering tower and shelf dimensions, and options.
