A new bandsaw has been introduced by the German manufacturer, Kasto, capable of mitre cutting either side of the vertical. Called KASTOvericut, it is ideal for sawing I-beams, tubes and extrusions economically, and is available in semi- or fully-automatic versions through the company's UK subsidiary in Southampton. The machine offers a large cutting capacity, up to 600 x 460 mm for straight cuts, within a small footprint of 2,820 x 1,860 mm. The mitre angle of the double-sided, swivellable saw head may be set anywhere between +60 and -45 (optionally -60) degrees, either with a stop brake on the basic, manual version or via an electric drive, with the angle displayed directly at the control. To manually adjust the mitre angle, a stop is available every 15 degrees.
Speed of the 34 x 1.1 mm or 41 x 1.3 mm band is infinitely variable from 12 to 120 m/min, or alternatively, a machine with two cutting speeds of 30 and 60 m/min is available. For optimum performance when cutting hollow profiles or forged materials with scales, the saw blade can be tilted by 3 degrees to minimise burrs and speed the sawing cycle. A built-in pressure sensor adjusts the hydraulic infeed automatically to suit the cross section of the material being cut, thereby maximising productivity, accuracy of cut and blade life. From its entry-level version with a fixed table and manually adjustable, short stroke clamping devices, the machine can be optimised step-by-step with a continuous roller conveyor, hydraulic long stroke clamping cylinders and an automatic material feed unit. As an option, the upper band guide arm can be hydraulically adjusted for the correct cutting height. An auger for discharging chips is also optional. The automatic version of KASTOvericut comes with a three-metre, single-stroke material infeed unit bolted directly to the machine. The standard NC Kasto CompactControl centrally and ergonomically controls all operating functions. Setting of the mitre angle, the cutting speed, a measuring stop or pusher system and the material feed vice can be NC-controlled as well.
