KASTOtwin A5
The new, fully enclosed KASTOtwin A5 bandsaw has a cutting capacity of 560 x 630 mm (h x w)
Up to 98 orders can be programmed

German sawing machine manufacturer, KASTO Maschinenbau, has introduced a new bandsaw with a cutting capacity of 560 mm rounds or rectangles up to 560 x 630 mm. Called KASTOtwin A5, it bridges the gap between the A4 and A6 models.

The fully enclosed machine occupies just 3.35 metres by 2.26 metres of factory space, partly as a result of having a screw-type chip conveyor built in to the machine base, parallel with the saw blade. Chips pass to a second, vertical conveyor and are ejected into a container at a height of 600 mm.

The machine is designed for cutting with 54 mm wide by 1.6 mm thick bimetal blades and achieves a high degree of accuracy as regards cut length and squareness owing to the rigidly constructed saw head, which travels on double column guides. A spur gear drive with a frequency-controlled, 5.5 kW motor powers the bandsaw blade, cutting speed being infinitely variable from 13 to 127 m/min, selectable from the central operating panel.

Infeed rate is adjustable to suit the material being cut, maximising blade life and allowing alternate cutting of solids, tubes and profiles without time-consuming resetting. Moreover, the precisely guided saw head and the infinitely variable adjustment between constant feed rate and constant cutting force ensure long blade life. After each cut, the stock is retracted in automatic cycle from both sides of the saw blade during the latter's return stroke, resulting in reduced wear on the tooth tips and longer blade life.

Automatic material height recognition allows rapid infeed of the blade to a zero cut position, thereby maximising productivity. The band guide arm and clamping vice also adapt automatically to the material width, ensuring precise, repeatable cuts in fully automatic operation.

The material is clamped in two places by a fixed vice positioned behind the blade and by the material feed vice which moves by ballscrew actuation up to 900 mm in the longitudinal direction under CNC. To ensure reliable movement of stock into the machine and to compensate for material unevenness, for example when cutting forged material, the fixed vice jaw is automatically retracted by about 10 mm from the guide edge during material feed. The minimum rest length of 80 mm in automatic operation ensures economical material utilisation.

Up to 98 orders (cut length / number of piece combinations) can be entered by the operator into the KASTO CompactControl system. Automation packages are available including a bundle clamping device, roller conveyors, blade deflection monitoring and constant temperature coolant.
