Following the success of the fully enclosed KASTOtwin A4 bandsaw from German sawing machine manufacturer, KASTO Maschinenbau, the company has introduced a new model with a larger working capacity, designated A6. The machine is available in the UK through KASTO Ltd, Southampton. Despite the large cutting capacity - 660 mm rounds or rectangles up to 660 x 800 mm - the KASTOtwin A6 has a compact footprint of 4.3 m wide by 2.2 m deep. Moreover, the screw-type chip conveyor built in to the machine base, parallel with the saw blade, does not increase the overall machine dimensions. Chips pass to a second, vertical conveyor and are ejected into a container at a height of 800 mm (1,100 mm optional). The machine is designed for cutting with 1.6 mm thick bimetal blades and achieves a high degree of accuracy as regards cut length and squareness owing to the rigidly constructed saw head, which travels on double column guides. A spur gear drive with a frequency-controlled, 7.5 kW motor powers the bandsaw blade, cutting speed being infinitely variable from 18 to 100 m/min, selectable from the central operating panel. Infeed rate is adjustable to suit the material being cut, maximising blade life and allowing alternate cutting of solids, tubes and profiles without time-consuming resetting. An hydraulic side-shift cylinder moves the material a few millimeters away from the blade after each cut is completed, avoiding damage to the teeth on the return stroke. Automatic material height recognition allows rapid infeed of the blade to a zero cut position, thereby maximizing productivity. The band guide arm andclamping vice also adapt automatically to the material width, ensuring precise, repeatable cuts in fully automatic operation. The material is clamped in two places by a stationary vice positioned behind the blade and by the material feed vice which moves by ballscrew actuation up to 750 mm in the longitudinal direction under CNC (optionally up to 1,500 mm for tube, profile and bundle cuts). The minimum rest length of 90 mm in automatic operation ensures economical material utilisation. Up to 30 orders (cut length / number of piece combinations) can be entered by the operator into the KASTO CompactControl system. Automation packages are available including a bundle clamping device, roller conveyors, blade deflection monitoring, constant temperature coolant, and a 1 degree inclined saw unit to cut plates with scaly surfaces.
