Building and Facilities News present KASTO Limited with the highly regarded Company of the Year Award 2008

Building and Facilities News is delighted to present KASTO Limited with our highly regarded Company of the Year Award 2008! The company specialises in supplying storage systems, which allow uninterrupted supply 24 hours a day, meaning that orders can be filled more promptly and businesses can also store larger amounts of stock compared to conventional racking systems. A range of sawing machines and window fabricating machines are also available from the company. Our congratulations go to all the team at KASTO - Well Done! Comments Ernst Wagner, Managing Director of KASTO Ltd, "Nowadays business is about adaptability as well as flexibility and efficiency."

Established in 1865, Kasto Maschinenbau GmbH is a private company owned by the Stolzer family, who are now in their 5th generation of ownership, with the company based in Germany. Established in 2003 and based in Southampton, Kasto Limited is best known for supplying sawing machines and storage systems which are manufactured by its parent company, Kasto Maschinenbau GmbH. The UK company also markets a range of complementary equipment under sole agency agreements, such as sawing machines and window fabricating machinery, with a particular strength also in the designing and project management of fully automated production centres, combining CNC circular and band sawing machines, as well as other machinery, optionally, assisted by robots; tools such as lathes and sheet metal profilers.

Many manufacturers and stockholders including those linked with computer-controlled storage and high storage retrieval towers, use these storage systems to reduce labour costs, maximise machining up-time and to ensure short lead times through efficient store management and stock retrieval. Raw material, along with work-in-progress, can be stored in the form of sheet, bar, tube or profile, held on pallets as well as in stillages and boxes.

KASTO is a world leader in the manufacture of automated storage systems for long stock and sheet, supplied either in isolation or linked to machinery such as sawing machines and sheet metal profilers. A vast variety of systems are available allowing the customer to choose the one which is most suitable to their needs and requirements. UNIBLOC is an economical entry level Stacking Cradle System ideally suited to bar stock, sheet metal and other bulky material, and KASTO a semi-automatic single-lift spreader beam with safety chains, allowing multiple stacking of up to three layers simultaneously, as well as the KASTO Inventory Control Computer which can manage materials and location and controls storage, along with restacking and retrieval orders. Other storage systems available from KASTO include; the UNITOWER, comprising a compact cassette storage system for buffer storage in steel operations, as well as the capability to store small quantities of raw material; and the UNITOP, a unique automatic bar storage system where the operating crane travels on the top of the shelf rack. Computer controlled and of a compact design, the system ensures fast access to cassettes and has shown to be highly efficient and extremely reliable, requiring a minimum number of personnel.

Sheet metal processing facilities and distributors are investing more and more in automated storage and retrieval systems to streamline stock control and material flow. Using the storage systems which are supplied by KASTO, uninterrupted supply to machine tools can be maintained 24 hours a day, giving a better chance of orders being fulfilled promptly. At the same time, a company is able to store a larger amount of stock, saving valuable floor space compared to conventional racking systems.

KASTO storage solutions offer:

  • Efficiency in space: 50% floor space savings due to vertical storage up to 25m in height; both indoors and/or outdoors possible
  • Efficiency in output: 2-3 times greater pick rates than manual/traditional racking methods
  • Great gains in Health and Safety; let our machinery do the manipulation and handling
  • KASTO is also a world leader in the manufacture of sawing machines and is the only company still producing hacksaws in addition to bandsaws and circular saws. Their wide variety of products includes;
  • KASTO tec bandsaw, a fully automatic, dedicated, carbide designed, high production bandsaw machine for ultimate output and lowest cost/cut for all materials including tool steel, stainless, titanium and Ni-alloys
  • KASTO vertical bandsaw, a machine which uses the long cut working method to allow different sizes of cross-section from rolled blocks or rolled plates to be cut from square or flat materials, as well as using bi-metal blades or carbide tipped blades to cut metals such as titanium and Hastelloy with a high performance.
  • KASTO speed 9 circular saw, an automatic machine for fast, accurate sawing of large quantities of cut pieces of steel, using carbide tipped saw blades and HSS solid saw blades.
  • KASTO variospeed circular saw, which uses the CNCcontrolled saw for use with HSS and carbide blades, able to automatically feed material by means of inclined magazines and capable of automatically discharging materials by means of sorting devices.
  • Die KASTOalu U 20, a heavy semi-automatic upstroking circular saw for mitre cutting with a pneumatic, horizontal and vertical clamping device for cutting aluminium and plastic profiles.

Over 1,200 automatic storage customers and more than 100,000 saws supplied globally should give you the confidence that KASTO Limited can assist in maintaining its customers' competitive edge into the future.

KASTO Limited also runs a team of several Service Engineers who are located throughout the UK, providing a top class service on all sawing machines, bar and sheet storage systems as well as other equipment from the manufacturer. Service Engineers are consistently updated with the latest technology used on the machines and storage systems, as well as carrying a comprehensive range of spare parts to shorten reaction times and to ensure that customer productivity is maximised. With over a decade's worth of experience within the industry and the growing expansion of the company, you can be sure you can rely on KASTO for all of your storage system and sawing machinery needs. Along with an excellent team of experienced engineers and supportive staff, you know you will getting the equipment and guidance that you require from one of the world's leading manufacturers in the market.
